As a result, they are often used in passenger vehicles, light-duty engines, and applications where reduced weight is a priority.The selection of crankcase material depends on several factors, including engine size, intended use, operating temperature, load conditions, manufacturing cost, and expected service life. For heavy-duty diesel engines used in trucks, marine equipment, construction machinery, and generators, cast iron remains a highly reliable choice. For smaller or more modern engines, aluminum alloy may be preferred to improve efficiency and reduce emissions through lightweight design.Another important consideration is machinability and manufacturing process. The material must allow precise machining of bearing seats, mounting surfaces, oil passages, and other critical features. It must also be compatible with casting methods that ensure dimensional accuracy and structural consistency. In addition, corrosion resistance and compatibility with lubricants and coolant systems are important for long-term reliability.Overall, the diesel engine crankcase material plays a vital role in engine performance, durability, and efficiency. The right material must balance strength, weight, heat dissipation, and cost while meeting the demanding conditions of diesel engine operation.
